September 2010 - Benz of the Month

jplinville - 1987 560SL

I thought I bought the car from my father in law in September of 2008 for the sum of $9000. He passed away in June of 2009. At the reading of his will, it was made known to me
that the car had been willed to me completely, and the amount that I had paid him each month
was refunded to me, along with a note from him that I enjoy it as much as he did.

It's a 1987 560sl with 88,XXX miles on the clock. Everything on this car is original,
except the tires and stereo, which was replaced a few years ago. Even the spare tire is
original, and has never been mounted to the car. It has the original rag top,
and the back windows are crystal clear.

The car resides in a climate controlled garage, and has never seen snow and only driven
in the rain a handful of times...just like the previous owner did.

I've removed the timing resistor, advancing the timing by 6 degrees. I run a mix of 50/50
fuel...91 octane mixed with 105 octane aviation fuel. It's the only mix that she likes,
and she likes it a lot!!

I drive her regularly in the summer, each weekend with the top down
and the radio playing loudly.

My 14 year old has claimed it as hers if anything happens to me.
